How to Use and Store Your Wraps

  • Beeswax wraps should be used to store cold food products only and due to contamination, you should never store raw meat or fish with them.

  • Make sure that any food you want to store with the wraps is completely cold before covering. Otherwise, you risk the beeswax melting and getting into your food. For the same reason, beeswax wraps should never be used in the microwave or oven either.

  • You can use beeswax wraps to store food in the fridge. They can be cleaned simply with cold water and mild detergent. Never use warm or hot water to wash your wraps, as they will lose their coating.

  • Hang your wrap and allow it to dry before folding and storing it. You can simply store the wrap folded in a drawer or box or place them between some baking paper to prevent the wraps sticking together.

  • The wraps should have a pliable and sticky feel to them if they are to be effective. They need to be able to stick to the surface of a bowl, jar or dish, or to themselves when wrapping.

  • If your wraps no longer feel sticky or seem to have lost their effectiveness, you can re-wax them using the same iron method you use to make them. Beeswax wraps can be re-waxed several times before replacing them. Simply add more wax to the wraps and heat with the iron until the fabric is covered again.

  • Once your wraps have reached the end of their shelf life, the good news is, that you don’t have to throw them away. Cut the Beeswax wraps into strips and compost them. Or scrunch them up into balls and use them as a slow burning firelighter on a BBQ or campfire

Use & Care

Beeswax wraps last up to one year with proper care. Wash with cold water and mild soap, rinse, and air dry. If the wax begins to deteriorate, pop the wraps in your oven at 70°C (158°F) for a few minutes. It is tempting to turn the oven higher to melt the beeswax faster, but beeswax is flammable and melts at 62 to 66 °C (144 to 150 °F), so a low temperature is suggested. This will redistribute the wax and should give you an additional 4-6 months of use

Candle care

Candle care for the pillar candles is as follows:

For optimum burn quality, beeswax candles are best burned for long periods of time.

To establish a lovely burn pool for your pillar candle, we suggest that the first time you light it, you burn it for 2 hours. Thereafter, you may burn freely.

Good candle care also should be taken for the wick. Always keep your candle wick to 5mm before each new lighting so that you get a nice clean burn. When extinguishing gently dip the wick into the melted wax pool, and stand it back up again. This will prime it for your next burn. Thereafter, keep the wick trimmed to 5mm before each use.

It is suggested to burn your candles out of direct breeze, for longevity and brightness.

For safety, always burn your candle on a stable, level, non-flammable, heat resistant surface. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn your candle out of reach of children and pets. Avoid drafts. Never burn candles on or near anything flammable. Handle lit flame with care as wax will become hot.

When you extinguish a candle before the liquid wax pool reaches the edge of the candle or glass jar, this can cause a tunnel to start forming around the wick. This tunnel will get deeper over time if the user repeatedly burns the candle for shorter periods.

When this tunnel is too deep, eventually, the amount of airflow that can reach the flame will be inadequate, and the candle will fail to stay lit even with plenty of wax remaining.

Life happens, so sometimes you do have to extinguish the flame before the liquid wax pool reaches the edge. If this happens, make sure that your next burn session is long enough to allow the liquid wax pool to once again reach the edge of the candle.

Your flame should burn straight upwards and calmly, not flicker wildly or at a slant. A draft will push your wick to one side, causing the candle to burn unevenly and even drip down one side if left long enough. Position your candle in an area away from vents and open windows to avoid drafts.

If your flame is flickering excessively, your wick may be too long or have too much carbon build-up on the tip. Put out the flame, trim your wick, and re-light it.

Pure beeswax is a very hard, dense wax that shrinks while cooling, and you may find this can lead to cracks in container candles or larger diameter candles if the wax hardens quickly. The crack will fill in with liquid wax when the candle is lit again, and it will not impact the burning of your beautiful candle.

We see these cracks as part of the nature of pure beeswax candles. Being a hard, dense wax can lead to cracks, but it is also the reason why beeswax burns for much longer than any other wax. Instead of using unwanted additives, we embrace this unique property of beeswax as part of having a truly hypoallergenic and long-burning candle.

Every beeswax candle is truly unique.

Like honey, the flowers that the bees have gathered their pollen and nectar from will affect the composition of their beeswax. As a result, beeswax burns very differently from other types of candles. Treat this beeswax candle with care, and it will return the same to you!
